Founder and designer Marlene
Anine Hamann Holmboe was Born in 1975 in the country side of Denmark. She
studied ladies fashion design at the Danish Design College from 1999 to
2006. Where she participated at several fashion shows, and exhibitions. The
5 years of studies turned into 7, as Marlene during her studies became mother
of 3. First her son Sebastian, and a few years later the twins Frida Marie and
Anna Oline. After the time at Danish Design College Marlene worked as one of
the head designers behind one of the largest Danish children’s brand Mini a
When and Why:
During her time as head
Designer, Marlene really became convinced that her designer hart felt at home
in the children universe. And a strong feeling to do things “her own way” grew
in her mind. In June 2008 she left her job, and launched MarMar Copenhagen
along with Lars Ellebaek who has heavy experience from the retail business.
Marlene’s visions were to
create a universe in “toned down elegance, where romantic appearance and sharp
graphic prints are the contrasts.” Only the most important details are
allowed, the coloures are always toned down, but with an eye catching twist.
Children inspires, they are
so full of contrasts; chocolate spread all over and ballerina outfit simultaneously. But more
specific, the inspiration comes from old books, movies and photos. And off cause the
fashion history is very inspiring regarding the silhouettes of the styles.
MarMar and the future:
The future for MarMar is the
world.. You will find MarMar in all great and inspiring cities around the
world, but you will never find MarMar at every corner!
As we say: “You have to walk that
extra mile to get MarMar”.
MarMar´s ethical issues:
MarMar always seeks to produce as decent as possible. For example a part of the
collection is oko-tex 100 certificated. We are very keen on the work
environment, for example through Danish agents, who check the suppliers
regularly. MarMar don´t overproduce, which means that we don´t work with stock.
And a strong vision is to make a part of MarMar Organic and Fairtrade
certificated, and for MarMar those two things go together!
Designer Anette Nordrup was in the middle of a t-shirt production, when
her mother-in-law found an old drawing, that Anette’s husband had made in a
song-book as a 4-year-old. The drawing showed a crooked-legged matchstick-man
with spiky hair. Anette fell for the happy face, and immediately decided, that
the matchstick-man should be her logo.
The idea with the GRO collection was to make a line for girls and boys
from newborn to 10 years. To celebrate the life of children, we called the
collection GRO which translated means GROW – because every mum and dad know
that the most devout time is when our children grow up and we wanted to design
clothes for all the children which each day grow.
Later on the Danish flag was introduced on the basic line. The customers
- especially the small boys - loved it and from that day on, we knew that the
small Danish flag was now a part of the GRO collection.
The GRO collections are known from their ingenious design and their habit
to design different children clothing again and again. The materials are smooth
organic cotton, fine woven cord, and cashmere, comfortable and contemporary.
Inevitably clothes every mum and dad would like the children to grow up in.
SPROUT BY GRO
Sprout by Gro is a small collection made exclusively for the
We searched for a name for the line, and when SPROUT appeared we knew
from the start, that this was literally the idea - to plant new seed.
Anette Nordrup said: There is still a little girl inside of me, and I
desired to make a line for all the wonderful girls in the world. It was
important for me that there were no expectation and no rules - just creativity.
The idea with Sprout was to make a girly collection, where the naive
graphic line follows each collection and forms amazing clothes for the
Anette Nordrup is the designer and developer behind the SPROUT
collection. She started up with the children wear company Gro Company. Now she
stands behind the new collection called SPROUT.
For Anette Nordrup the SPROUT collection has 3 goals
- to stimulate and open the eyes of the girls to a different world of
creativity and to broaden the way of thinking - to celebrate the girls
who stand out from the crowd and who appreciate wearing design of a deeper
- to make a collection which is designed for the between girls –
which is not adults style and which is not children style, but a style made for
the betweens. We don’t want to make tops which are too short, because the girls
are still children, but what we would like to design is, new shapes with a
simply sophisticated edge.
- to gather the minimalistic, naive and understated design and make
a collection where there are no expectation and no rules - just creativity.
Mini Rodini is one of Scandinavia’s fastest growing children’s wear brands. Selling in some of the most prestigious department stores and independent shops world-wide, from Harvey Nichols in Kuwait to Little Fashion Gallery in Paris. As of now, Mini Rodini is represented in over 250 selected locations aside from the two fully owned stores and the successful web channel.
We believe it is of great importance that children have clothes that match their own mood and creativity. Mini Rodini is a tribute to all children, their imagination and sense that everything is possible. While the aesthetic of our designs – playful and humorous – may speak to children, the quality is equally important. Sustainability is one of our strongest aspects in our whole design process. We design modern children’s clothes that speak to modern and conscientious parents.
Mini Rodini’s collections continue to grow by each season. What started with robot prints in small scale in 2006, has now become complete collections: from heavy duty outerwear and denim to swimwear and accessories. All with the same playfulness and creativity, appreciated by grown-ups and kids alike.
TRENDS SPRING/SUMMER 2013
Equestrian, Burned, Leather, Dust, The Pampas, Matador, Tailoring
The Gaucho kid is like the Sundance Kid: searching for a sunny lifestyle with beautiful horses, beautiful women and beautiful freedom. And just like the Kid is a gentleman and a criminal, our Gaucho trend is full of contradictions like lace and leather, bright and burned colors, Mexico and the Midwest, gringos and cowboys, high drama and a quiet, simple life. Not simple as in cheap, but as in quality: maroon leather ages with beauty, and the best wool will last forever. In Gaucho, men and women dress alike in felt hats and tuff belts, knitted vests and white shirts with rolled-up sleeves. No one leaves home without a scarf. The color scheme stretches from light beige to dark mahogany combined with crisp white, dusty purple, denim blue and bright red and the atmosphere is a proud, honest and Silverado way of living in the land of the free and the home of the brave. Olé!
Life is orange in Venice 79′. Love is in the air, and the surfer dudes are in the water, searching for the ultimate ride on the mavericks offshore. The shorts are short, the hair is long and the bubblegum tastes like watermelon. It is a high-five way of living, the age of innocence and a never-ending California dream. It is hot, hot summer nights wearing soft yellow, minty green, and purple like the electric sky, and it is light blue like the light mornings and warm grey like melting asphalt on long, lazy Sunday afternoons. So put on a colorful viper and bring out the fun and games for a disco day with friends, waves and roller-skating on the boardwalk. Venice 79′ is the days of our lives.
AUNT AUGUSTA’S SUMMER HOUSE
White shirts, Laid back, Garden play, Jackets, Straw hats, Laced dresses, Sophisticated, Gentleman sports
Like The Great Gatsby or the opening scene in Alice in Wonderland, Aunt Augusta’s Summer House is all about white dresses and polo shirts, charlatans and secrets, upstairs and downstairs, manners and misbehaving. The House is full of romantic memories, the furniture is kept in soft, shaded colors and it smells like rose leaves or bluebells or freshly ironed Egyptian cotton sheets. Outside in the garden, the girls are giggling and their soft hair is brushed every night with a hundred strokes. Today it is braided and topped with a silk bow or Aunt Augusta’s infamous flower garlands. The ladies wear laced dresses and straw hats with white ribbons. The gentlemen wear jackets with a vest and a white shirt. It is the same procedure as last year at Aunt Augusta’s Summer House – with afternoon tea served in the garden, laid-back conversations and a game of croquet. Aunt Augusta’s family is one of great fun and great traditions.
It is hot and humid in the jungle. The Range Rover has a spare wheel and the boots are practical because you never know what to expect in the forest of the unknown. When exploring the jungle, looking for rare species of flowers and animals, the right gear is of utmost importance. The backpacks are waterproof and camouflaged, the khaki jackets and vests have numerous pockets for holding extra knifes, band aid and the antidote for poisonous snake bites. The jungle explorer knows his life depends on what he wears, so the materials are tough, the cuts practical, the colors low-key and the prints imitate the animals he is searching for. It is a hunt for fun and games and it takes place in a danger zone of dark waters and impassable tracks. We set our special watches: it is time to go and explore!
